KIN WELLNESS AND SUPPORT CENTER EXPANDS SERVICES TO PROVIDE RELIEF TO LOCAL ONCOLOGY HEALTHCARE WORKERS

Kin’s unique 360-care model offers free services to the entire local cancer community – the cancer patients, the caregivers and the oncology healthcare workers

Kin’s Healthcare Worker Program Begins at Fox Chase Cancer Center Buckingham with free Reiki for their Radiation and Infusion Staff; and Grand View Health’s Outpatient Center in Dublin

February 1, 2024 – Buckingham Township, PA – The non-profit Kin Wellness and Support Center, which is dedicated to caring for the local Bucks County cancer community, is happy to announce that select integrated services will now be offered to local oncology healthcare workers.  This extension of services was realized through a collaboration between Dr. Shelly Hayes of Fox Chase Cancer Center Buckingham and the Director of Kin, Kristina Fenimore, with help from Kin’s long-standing practitioner and Reiki Master Mary Ellen Morba as a means for supporting cancer center healthcare workers.  Grand View Health has also joined the program and services are set to begin at their Dublin location.

Burnout is on the rise among this cancer care group; thus, the idea was crafted to provide integrative support services to them and help them help others.  Due to their busy schedules and daily demands, it is not realistic for healthcare workers to come to Kin during the work day to receive integrative services.  Kin’s new Remote Care Program is designed to accommodate the healthcare worker’s schedules, and bring integrative service to them, on-site, at their offices.

Kin prides itself on being inclusive and using resources to provide relief for people who administer care, as well as for those who received it.  Over the past two years Kin has built strong relationships with hospital workers in Bucks County and Philadelphia who care for our local cancer patients in Bucks County.  It is nice to give back, especially to the hospitals who have been supporting Kin as official sponsors including Fox Chase Cancer Center Buckingham and Grand View Health.  These organizations contribute in a meaningful way, allowing Kin to make a meaningful impact on the local cancer community, as well as launch programs like our new “Healthcare Worker Program”.

Shelly Hayes MD, Director, Fox Chase Cancer Center Buckingham Associate Professor, Department of Radiation Oncology shares, "I care deeply about the wellbeing of my patients and my hard-working staff.  Since Kin's inception I have sent countless patients to benefit from the wellness that Kin provides, now I have an opportunity to extend that care to my staff through Kin's new Healthcare Worker Program and I am so grateful.  The fact that practitioners come to our facility so our staff does not have to leave, is remarkably convenient and gracious.  Kin is making a tremendous 360-degree impact on our local cancer community!"

Reiki Master, Mary Ellen Morba, adds, “After working for 45 years as a registered nurse, I recognize the importance for self-care. The staff who work in oncology are very committed to the care of their patients. We can give them the opportunity to do a self-care session to relax and rejuvenate.  They feel better and in turn, they can continue to be their best for their patients. “

Receiving one of the reiki sessions with Mary Ellen was Stacy Torres, RMA, Medical Assistant, Radiation Oncology Buckingham, who shares, “I enjoyed the Reiki (energy) session with Mary Ellen. It was very calming and peaceful. I felt as if I had a full body massage, but without being touched. My body felt rejuvenated afterwards. I feel that others would enjoy this experience. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to take part.”

Kristina Fenimore, Director of Kin states, “I am so happy to be able to grow Kin’s holistic cancer care program in ways that help more people.  Through our nearly 50 volunteer practitioners and instructors we already provide relief to hundreds of people throughout their cancer journey.  We’ve worked closely with the hospitals who refer our guests.  This new program which focuses solely on the cancer staff is a natural extension for us.  We’re so excited to be able to work with our volunteer practitioners to offer these remote integrative opportunities to help those who help others!”
